MOVIES AND TV
Beware of
Television
It is considered that one of the
greatest inventions of the twentieth century—the television—completely
changed the way of a person’s life. Television has brought into every
home a lot of information and easy-to-reach entertainment. Is its
influence on the personality, family, or children positive only or is
there another side of the coin? Yes, there is. A negative one. The
effect of television depends not only on the content of its programs,
but there are more general aspects of influence of TV viewing on
intellectual activity. To make sure of that we need to look scrupulously
at every aspect of this phenomenon in general, not emphasizing on the
quality and content of its production.

Animation and
its steps
My personal enjoyment with
animation has inspired me to write this essay, pertaining to animation.
Since I was a child I have been fascinated with cartoons; from when they
started out to be black and white, and until now with full colour and
computer effects. To better perceive what my personal feelings about
animation are, I must first discuss in full detail, a general overview
of how animators bring traditional animation alive with motion.

The Advantage
of Commercials
It began in the early 1940’s and to
this day still is in many of our lives, even more so then before. It’s
the TV that I’m referring to. The TV started only as only musicals on
it,. But eventually proceeded up to today’s oriented world, with movies,
sports, and violence. Today more than 98% of all households have a TV.
Over 75,000,000 of TV sets are color. To how haw our lives depend on TV;
according to A.C. Nielsen, America watches more than 7 hours per day.
Many people say TV has many disadvantaged, like expensive commercials.
For example, on 30 second commercials in the 1984 Super Bowl cost
approximately 450,000 dollars. If you just look at the price it sounds
costly, but in reality TV is one of the most cost-efficient media there
is. Not only is cost an advantage of TV commercials, so are TV’s impact
credibility, selectivity, and flexibility.

Art or Propaganda
Mankind, engaging in war, driven by
whatever instincts guide him, seeks to keep the defeats and victories of
battle in his memory and on his conscience. To accomplish this men have
used paint and canvas, ink and paper, or instrument and song in their
effort to communicate the tragedy and glory of war. Never, before the
career of D.W. Griffith had anyone attempted to bring the subject to
film.

Children, TV,
and Violence
America has the largest crime
rate in the world. Along with that crime rate is also the substantially
high violence rate. Why? Why is violence becoming and everyday common
happening in our society? When you flip on the "tele" and tune into the
news, the highlight of every show is somehow directly related or
connected to violence. We see it every evening and perhaps say "Oh my
gosh, how terrible." and then forget all about it two minutes later. Or
perhaps we don't even make any comments at all, just a simple grunt or
"..huh..". This numbness to violence is very scary and very real. Why is
it then that America has the most crime and violence. Why not
Switzerland or Australia. Are we not as civilized and advanced as they?
I believe it is this numbness to violence that has made America so
violent.

Television Shows Reflect American Culture
There are many movies and television
shows that reflect American culture. A show or movie must address some
current societal problem or trend in order to truly reflect American
life; murder, rape, racism, and, on a less serious note, parties,
shopping, and sports are topics that deserve serious consideration by
the public and the media.

Evolution of
Media Violence
The evolution of broadcast
programming can be identified into four stages. The first stage covers
the debut of commercial radio in the 1920’s. At that time the tone was
considered proper, and formal. For several years radio broadcasting
emphasized classical or semi-classical music, and historical drama.
Commercials were kept brief and always discreet In the second stage of
programming, which was called The Golden Age of Radio, shows were action
adventures. Vaudeville-Comedy was also popular. The hard ships of the
1930’s and then World War II, made it important for citizens to be able
to relax as radio brought popular entertainers and adventure stories
into their homes.

James Bond
Phenomenon
James Bond has gone through a lot of
changes in the years with 19 films. James Bond has been played by Sean
Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, George Lazneby, to Pierce Bronsman.
All being great James Bond characters. The best of them being Sean
Connery, why? I don't know why, he has always just been a better actor
in every movie he has been in. Then comes Pierce Bronsman because he has
been in movies for my generation and I can relate with the stuff going
on in his movies. Then would come Timothy Dalton because he looks and
acts a lot like Pierce Bronsman. I would guess Roger Moore comes in
fourth, why? because I HATE George Lazneby and I have no where else to
put him.
